Long Term Care Ombudsman

UPCAP is accepting applications for full-time and part-time Ombudsman positions.  The Ombudsman will provide services to local nursing homes or licensed facilities across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Services provided will include education, intervention, and public speaking/training for licensed nursing homes, adult foster care homes, and homes for the aged, along with community organizations as needed.

The position requires:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Social Work or a related field PREFERRED
  • Routine facility visits
  • Act as a liaison between nursing facility residents, families and advocacy programs
  • Investigate complaints and advocate on residents behalf as appropriate, mediating and/or facilitating problem resolutions
  • Possession of a Certificate of Ombudsman Designation – can be obtained during job training
  • Travel across the UP required
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Reliable transportation
