HEALTH AND WELLNESS

UPCAP offers classes and workshops across the U.P. for disease prevention and management, and general wellness.

A Matter of Balance

Many older adults experience a fear of falling. People who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. They may also experience increased social isolation, depression, and decreased interactions and activities with family and friends.  A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. A Matter of Balance is a community-based program that can be taken either in-person in a traditional classroom type setting or virtually online for those who are unable to attend in-person classes. The in-person Matter of Balance program includes 8 two-hour sessions, and the virtual online A Matter of Balance program includes 9 two-hour sessions. Both the in-person and virtual sessions are led by two trained facilitators for a small group of 8-12 participants.  Click below for more information on this award-winning program developed at Boston University.
